Q: How do I know if my pony is eligible to be nominated for the NAPF
breeding and performance incentive fund classes?
A: Your pony must
be sired by a nominated stallion, and for the 2009 competition year
must be foaled between 2004 and 2008. Nominated stallions will be
listed on the website. If you are unsure you may contact our recording
secretary.
Q: What classes are open to nominated ponies?
A: There is a full
breeding section for Colts and Fillies up to 3 years of age. There is
a performance division for 3 yr. olds that may be exhibited by any
size appropriate rider of any age be they amateur, professional or
junior. Three year old ponies may be stallions. A pony may enter only
one or two sections of the 3 yr. old performance division.
The NAPF
also conducts a division open to 4 and 5 yr. olds combined. These
ponies must be ridden by juniors of any age. See the competition
specifications for further information. These performance divisions
will receive the majority of the prize money.
Q: If I nominate my foal is it valid for the rest of his NAPF
competitive career?
A: Yes. A foal
need only be nominated one time.
Q: Why should I nominate my 4 0r 5 yr. old pony when they will have
only one or two years to compete?
A: The nominating
fees for 2009, our inaugural year are such that your odds are very
high to well exceed your fees in prize money. You will also be
contributing to the start up of a strong incentive fund program that
should increase interest in the young performance pony market. Unlike
most awards based on year end points the NAPF is also a major showcase
that you will not have to campaign your youngster heavily to win a
national title. Outside of being eligible through nomination there are
no qualifying shows in which you must participate in order to be the
Grand Champion and win significant prize money.
The NAPF
championship 4 and 5 yr old division will be held at the Old Dominion
Horse Show, a USEF “AA” horse show that is held in Virginia in late
July. There will be numerous other awards and trophies in addition to
prize money. You and your pony’s name may get engraved on our
perpetual trophies for posterity. Your pony will receive great
exposure to the pony buying market. There will be significant national
press coverage that will name the wining ponies, breeders, riders and
owners. A good performance in this venue could well increase your
pony’s value and be a great source of pride for all involved.
We also
expect to fund awards for mature successful ponies that have gone
through the NAPF program. This will most likely be an award to be
given at USEF Pony Finals starting in the next few years.
Q: Does my pony need a USEF measurement card to compete?
A: You will need a
USEF temporary measurement card to compete in the performance
divisions. See the specifications for your division for more
information.
Q: Is there an additional charge to enter the performance division or
classes of the division?
A: Yes. That fee
will be determined shortly. It will be paid when you enter the horse
show.
Q: What if I nominate my foal and decide not to show them? Do I get a
refund?
A: No. Your
nomination fees will stay in the prize money pool.
